FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKEUP ? IS IT REALLY PERMANENT ?
Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing. It is also known as micropigmentation. In fact, it is semi-permanent and the effects last from 1 to 3 years, depending on the treatment and maintenance.
The pigment is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, it does not go as deep as with the traditional tattoo and that is the reason it starts fading after some time.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OMBRÉ POWDER BROWS, COMBO BROWS AND MICROBLADING?
Ombré Powder Brows (also known as Powder Brows/Microshading) is the one of the newest machine techniques in semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing. The technique is described by its name, soft and light in the front and gradually darker towards the tails. Ombré powder brows can be applied with a soft, natural-finish or can be built up to resemble the look of darker makeup.
The intensity of the ombré effect is contingent on how much existing brow hair there is, thus results vary per person. If you have darker hairs or patches in the front of your brows, you will likely need more a fuller powder-filled brow style so your natural brow hairs blend seamlessly. Ombré is great for all skin types, but especially those with previous semi-permanent makeup, and oily, mature, and acne-prone skin.
Microblading has a hyper-realistic eyebrow look achieved by manual hairlike strokes cut into the skin. This technique creates a natural result, giving brows a fuller appearance, however, this technique is best suited for normal to dry skin types with minimal appearance of pores.
-
Semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing is often a two-step process, which includes an initial insertion of pigment, followed by a touch-up 6-10 weeks later. Sometimes a third or fourth session is necessary depending on your skin type or not following through on aftercare instructions.
-
Results vary based on lifestyle, health, and skin type.
-
Results should be evaluated after the touch-up application is completed.
-
Microblading is not recommended for mature clients or those with large pores or oily skin.
Combo brows is a beautiful blend of microblading and powder shading that creates an added polish and makeup look to hyper-realistic hair strokes.
IS PERMANENT MAKEUP SAFE?
We make sure everything is spotless – we follow strict hygiene protocols and all the needles are disposable.
We all licensed and certified.
We use only the top quality permanent makeup pigments.
If you have any health conditions, inform your artist before the treatment.
If you have any allergies and you think you might be allergic to the pigment used, take a patch-test before the treatment.
IS IT PAINFUL?
It can’t really be described as painful, since the pigment does not go so deep under the skin. It can be a little bit uncomfortable.
Numbing ream is applied to help ease the procedure. Most clients say the level of discomfort is similar to the one you feel when tweezing your brows. Some of them even feel nothing at all.
For more sensitive clients, numbing solution can be applied throughout the procedure, if necessary.

HOW LONG DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST?
Permanent makeup can last up to 1-3 years. A touch up is included in all permanent makeup services at 4-10 weeks after the initial appointment, but it is not required. Clients that choose a soft ombré or microblading application, a light color shade, did not follow the aftercare instructions or are getting corrective work done, may require more touch up appointments.
Factors that will cause your permanent makeup application to fade faster include: tanning bed & sun exposure, regular exfoliation, oily skin, profuse sweating (e.g. hot yoga 5x/week), using skin products with strong active ingredients (e.g. retinol, AHAs), and medical conditions. We recommend at maximum one yearly "color boost" touch-up to maintain the procedure’s color however, we do advocate holding off for as long as possible to maintain skin integrity.
Permanent makeup is intended to offer daily functionality and time-savings—therefore, if after a year or two, you may need to add a touch of makeup, this is a process that takes only 30 seconds or less vs. the full 5-10 minutes prior to getting permanent makeup done, and you are still enjoying the benefits and the investment of this procedure.
WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Your semi-permanent tattoo will be too dark at first. The true color will be seen after the healing process is over.
Also, some swelling might occur, and goes away within 24 hours.
WHAT ACTIVITIES SHOULD I AVOID?
After permanent makeup treatment, you should avoid any activity that includes sweating. So, no working out, visiting saunas, sitting in the sun.
No swimming also, water can damage your freshly done microblading or any other permanent makeup treatment.
I AM UNSURE OF THE RIGHT DESIGN AND COLOUR. DO I NEED TO BOOK A CONSULTATION BEFORE AN APPOINTMENT?
Not required, we will chose the shape and color during your appointment. You will have a chance to see and approve the shape before we start the procedure. We will listen carefully to your goals and recommend shapes and colours along with a mock-up of the proposed design. This way you can choose your best look.
Also, we will be seeing you for a touchup appointment in the following months so you may “fine-tune” your design and make adjustments to shape and colour. The end result will be the shape you are most satisfied with.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE?
Permanent makeup treatment is usually 2-3 hours long.
The first part includes preparation and consultation, where we choose the pigment shade, shape of your brows etc.
After that, the artist will create a design by reshaping your existing brow to help you envision your ideal end result. Only once you are 100% satisfied, we will proceed.
Aftercare routines will be provided after the treatment which you need to follow religiously for the best results.
In the end, we will schedule your first touch up, which is obligatory.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?
Permanent makeup for brows can take up to 7-10 days. Lip blush can take up to 3-7 days to heal on average. Eyeliner has the quickest healing time, and usually takes up to 3-5 days.
Please note that healing times can vary per person based on your individual skin type and lifestyle factors, and sometimes clients may experience longer healing times. While the surface layer has appeared to heal the soonest, please keep in mind that it still takes 3-4 weeks for the pigment to surface to its true color. and skin layers underneath to fully heal.

I’VE HAD PREVIOUS EYEBROW TATTOOING, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR COVER-UP, CORRECTION, CAMOUFLAGING OR REMOVAL WORK?
All clients with previous permanent makeup work from another studio or artist MUST first send a clear, well-lit, makeup-free photo to info@yjstudios.ca prior to booking an appointment and to be accepted as a client.
For cover-up or correction work, the best candidates are those with previous tattoos that have faded 70-80%, however, we still need to make sure by analyzing a photo of your existing tattoo. Any cover-up, correction or camouflaging work will incur an added rate of $100 due to the additional time, supplies and skills needed to sufficiently neutralize the existing brow tattoo and apply the new design and pigment.
